CULVERT & DAM ASSESSMENT
Cornell Cooperative Extension completed an assessment of the culverts in Town using a standardized protocol and online database developed by the North Atlantic Aquatic Connectivity Collaborative (NAACC).
The town benefits from this evaluation in several ways. Initially, it serves as a reference resource to the town and highway department. This resource allows the town to move forward with culvert management in a more resilient, timely and prioritized manner. The work summarizes the culvert assessments within the town boundaries, provides a ranking of structures for replacement based on priorities for the community, aquatic organism passage and flood resiliency. This allows for a more complete and thoughtful approach to road-stream crossing management. It can also serve as a comprehensive planning document to guide future projects and support funding applications or appropriations.
The list of culverts can be accessed via the link below. Simply filter for New York State and Kinderhook. This will bring up a list of all culverts that have been assessed. There is a map option, “Map with Google Maps”. You can then click on each culvert to open up the data taken at each site (pictures, measurements, etc).
