HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN
On August 15, 2025, Columbia County finalized its Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP). The HMP is a long-term strategy used by state, local, tribal, and territorial governments to reduce or eliminate risks from natural and human-caused disasters. It identifies potential hazards—such as floods and wildfires—and outlines actions to protect life, property, and infrastructure. The plan helps break the cycle of damage, reconstruction, and repeated loss, and is required by FEMA for eligibility for certain disaster funding.
The Town of Kinderhook, along with all other municipalities within Columbia County, was invited to participate in the development of the plan. On November 3, 2025, the Kinderhook Town Board adopted the Hazard Mitigation Plan by resolution, formally approving its use as a guiding document. This plan enables the Town to take both proactive and responsive measures in addressing potential or active hazards and provides guidance for managing recovery efforts in the aftermath of disasters.
